MCA Broker Commission Structures: How Much ISOs Actually Make

A working breakdown of MCA commission economics — points, sliding scales, syndication splits, and what a realistic ISO P&L looks like.

Newer brokers often ask the same question: what do I actually make per deal? The honest answer is 'it depends,' but the variables are knowable. Here's how the math actually works in 2026.

The point system

MCA commissions are paid as 'points' — a percentage of the funded amount. Points come out of the funder's gross profit on the deal, paid to the ISO at funding. Typical ranges:

  • ▸First-position deals (no other MCA on file): 8–12 points
  • ▸Second-position (one prior MCA): 5–9 points
  • ▸Third-plus position: 2–6 points if the funder will write it at all
  • ▸Long-term deals (12+ months): often lower points, 4–7
  • ▸Consolidations and reverse-cons: variable, often 6–10 points

Sliding scales and tier-ups

Most funders pay you more as your monthly funded volume grows. A typical sliding scale: 8 points up to $200K/month, 9 points to $500K, 10 points to $1M, 11 points above $1M. Some funders renegotiate quarterly based on your trailing 90-day volume.

Sample broker P&L

A solo broker funding $400K/month at average 9 points grosses $36K/month or $432K/year. From that, subtract:

  • ▸Lead costs: $4K–$10K/month if disciplined
  • ▸Dialer / CRM / phone systems: $300–$800/month
  • ▸Office, software, taxes, etc: variable
The kicker

That $432K is before renewals. By month 18, a broker with that volume typically has 60–90 active merchants generating $15K–$30K/month in renewal commissions on top.

Syndication splits

Brokers who syndicate (put their own capital into deals alongside the funder) can earn an additional 15–35% IRR on syndicated dollars — but with real default risk. Syndication is how funded brokers build wealth versus just income, but it's a different business with different math.
